A message from The Very Revd. Dr. Gregory C. Gilson

On behalf of St. Matthew’s Cathedral and St. Paul’s church I would like to wish you a very happy and blessed Christmas season and joyful New Year.

I have noticed that modern Christmas stories all have a common theme. The story focuses on a central character; a self-involved, egocentric person, concerned only for self-gratification and ignorant or uncaring of the needs or feelings of the people around them. By the end of the story this same character has followed the experience of Scrooge and come to reflect the love of neighbour that Christians are called to live by. The only thing that is missing in our modern stories is Christ. There is no mention of God or Jesus or any underlying moral teaching other than to be “nice”.

Monday Night Manna

Monday night Manna

On Monday evenings a small gathering of folk come to the hall in St Matthew’s Cathedral for an experience of worship, fellowship and a meal very much like the disciples experienced with Jesus when they gathered in the upper room. During this experience we sing, pray, discuss scripture and enjoy a simple meal together. Like the Early Church the worship is simple, the prayers succinct and relevant and the discussion lively. We gather at 5:15 ish and depart 6:45 ish.

If you would like to experience the joy of this simple gathering please join us at 5:15ish and share in the Community of Christ Meal.

Second Annual Wine tasting event

Our second annual wine tasting event will take place in the parish hall on Friday May 30th, 2014.

Last year this event was almost completely sold out and proved to be such a good event that it is back by popular demand. Marcel Gautier led us through six different wines last year and many of us learned about wines and regions that were new to us. This year promises to be that much more enjoyable and informative!

The doors will open at 6:00 PM and the tickets will be $25.00 per person. If you are interested in attending please contact Dean Greg at the office 705-264-0914 and book your tickets. Last year we had only 5 tickets that were not sold so call as soon as possible to be sure to get your tickets.
